Who We Are

We are the Umatilla County Search and Rescue Unit, also known as "UMASAR". We are a volunteer unit within the Criminal Division of the Umatilla County Sheriff's Office located in eastern Oregon.

We are all volunteers except for the unit sergeant and senior deputy. We respond when people are lost, in need of rescue or emergency evacuation.

Our Members

We are comprised of volunteers from all walks of life, backgrounds and ages. We are united by a desire to help others in distress.

Our Challenge

The Search and Rescue unit's funding does not come close to covering all the equipment and training needed to be effective for the challenging incidents, terrain and weather encountered by unit personnel. Our volunteers pay for many of these expenses themselves.

UMASAR Foundation's Mission

Our Foundation's mission is to support the activities of the Umatilla County Search and Rescue Unit by acquiring or helping to acquire needed equipment and by defraying expenses of our volunteers. Learn more about the foundation on our About Us page.

How You Can Help

By donating to the UMASAR Foundation You can help us be more effective when responding to those who are lost or in need of rescue. All donated funds go directly to helping provide equipment, proper clothing and training for our volunteers. Please go to our Donation Page to find out how you can help our volunteers help others. Your donation can help save a life! UMASAR Foundation is classified by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization. Your donation is tax deductable.
